The photo above is of a partially constructed polystyrene hive. It provides the honeybees with a hive that has superior thermal properties.
It is expected to last 30 years and I expect to get more colonies through the winter with it.
I am very mindful that this hive is non-biodegradable but in the same vein, honeybees natural habitat are cavities in mature trees and not a wooden boxes.
I think this trade-off is justified if you consider what I am doing is providing a lifeboat for honeybees, until mankind regains its sanity about the only planet we can live on.
