Natural and pure beeswax

£2.35

This is natural and pure beeswax from our apiary on the Berkshire Downs in England.  Beeswax comes from honeybees who produce it to draw out comb – either to store honey or nuture brood.

We take care to purify our beeswax with mineral water, cloth filters and gently heat – that’s why it is natural and pure.  Unlike some overseas producers, we do not use chemicals such as bleaching agents or lubricants.

Here are some uses for beeswax:

  • making beeswax wraps;
  • producing homemade cosmetics including balms and soap;
  • lubricating tools, threads, needles and sticking drawers;
  • sealing envelopes (you might think it’s a bit ‘olde worlde’ yet there are many crafters who still do) ;
  • making candles, whether using moulds or by dipping wicks (see below for supplier details);
  • making crayons and pastels;
  • burnishing leather.

Melting beeswax

A double-boiler makes life easier – find one here Thornes – double boiler.  Alternatively, melt the beeswax using bain-marie: pan of boiling water with a bowl (containing beesawax) sitting on the top.
